Hello, I have thought about someting after watching the videos and going for the first time on the slope. When you turn, do you always have to go down the slope with your dominant foot in front of you?(when learning). For example if you are regular, you always go down to the right of the slope on heelside and to the left of the slope on your toe side?

pretty much the only thing i do is the heel side falling leaf the whole way down the mountain (i figured that out from watching one of the videos) and i want to learn to carve and use my toe side. basically i guess i'm afraid of my toe side...probably because i always fall on my toe side. i was surprised to hear aaron say in one of the videos that the toe side is the easiest. in regards to the videos, i guess i'd say i probably look a lot like krista on my board...goofy footed and falling mostly on the toe side.

anyone have any advice on the best way to teach myself? i've watched aaron's videos and have an idea of what to do as well as forcing my impatient husband who has been "teaching" me to watch them so he can help direct me. bottom line...i'm scared of my toe side and i need to get past it if i ever want to be able to carve, but i don't know how.

Thought I'd throw out my rankings of some of the xbox snowboard games and see if anyone agrees/disagrees (and if there's anyone here who plays them online--I'm GT rob7young)

Starting with my favorite and going downhill from there:

Shawn White Snowboarding - good combination of somewhat realistic, easy to use controls, reasonable achievements, good online play modes. This is the only one that people regularly play online--you can pretty much always find games to join. (btw, if you have a choice between xbox and pc version, get the xbox version)

Amped 2 - realistic, tougher to get all of the levels. (this is an original xbox game that works on xbox360, but doesn't have 360 achievements). great game to play by yourself, but nobody plays it online anymore. you can get copies dirt cheap on ebay.

stoked/stoked 2 - probably more realistic than SWS, but more difficult to play (at least for me). controller use is less intuitive than SWS. haven't seen people playing online. stoked 2 is a little improved, but you can get the original one pretty cheap these days.

amped 3 - this one is a weird derivative of amped 2--not as realistic and a weird story line.

ssx series - aracde-ish racing games in a snowboard setting.

well, i guess i get to start this off.

I'm Robert from the Kansas City area. I started learning to snowboard last season, but still consider myself a newbie. I'm 50+ (although most people think i'm in my 30's or 40's) 6'4 220+. My experience is limited to Snow Creek (www.skisnowcreek.com) , about an hour away from home.

i was never good at sports in school, last to be picked for teams in gym class, etc., so learning to ride is my (probably last) chance for redemption. I'm taking it slow (don't want to be the old dude who broke a hip snowboarding) and being careful, but having a great time.

After renting gear a few times to be sure I was going to stay with it, I've gotten good deals on gear on ebay. Current gear is a Burton Bullet 167W, custom bindings, and freestyle boots. I have all of the protective gear (wrist protectors, elbow, knee, impact shorts, helmet) It is defintely nice to walk directly from the ticket window to the slope. also got a season pass which gave me the last month of last season plus all of this season.

so as you can see, i'm hooked.
